SENIORS – MANAGER LAWRENCE CREEK
Syrus 4 v 2
A good start to a very competative game resulted in Essex Royals taking the
lead through a D.Sims goal after some very good passing moves. The game continued
with Essex Royals dominating the game and 10 minutes before half time were
two up from a goal scored by D.Honour. We ended the half with most of the
play except for the odd breakaway. This was definitely a game of two halves...we
found ourselves only 1-2 up after 50 minutes due to a disputed penalty given
against us that was to be the turning point of the game. They were soon level
and then 3-2 up to another poor refereeing blunder....we won a throw on the
half way line but were overruled by the ref and a quick throw resulted in
the goal. The last goal was a good move by Syrus a lot of one touch football
that deserved the goal.
A friendly arranged with a first division side currently
in 5th position The
match was fairly even with chances being missed at both ends until the opposition
took the lead in the 30th minute when a shot went in off one of our defenders
which left the keeper stranded the opposition went further ahead with a well
worked goal on 35 minutes. We continued to play well and pulled a goal back
in the 43rd minute with a good goal from K. Sullivan.
After 10 minutes of the second half we were further behind when some one touch
football again led to an own goal. The team kept playing some good passing
football and has the opposition tired we soon took the lead through goals
by D.Honour (2) and S. Hunt. A late
appearance was made by P. Honour to hold the team together for the last 10
minutes.
Essex Royals 0 v 3 West Laindon
After rearranging the venue and finally getting kicked off at 11.00am the
team did well to hold the opposition for almost 40 minutes but
went in 1-0 down to a goal that looked like it had been saved by G.Cooke after
he pushed it onto the bar...unfortunately the rebound went
in off the post after their forward beat our player to the ball.
The team was not playing as well as the previous week but we had a number
of injuries that disrupted the team.
We continued to struggle to find our form and went 2-0 down with a well worked
goal but were unlucky when we let in a miss hit shot that trickled in the net.

Isla Youth 4 V 2
Never having played this team before we were very dubious
as they have had some very good results. We started the game very slowly and took a while
to get into it, but once we found our form the lads played some great football.
A great volley goal scored by Sean Halloran
put us in the lead, but just before half time they equalised. We started the second half just as well and
a goal by Paul Shields put us back in charge.
Again they equalised and then a wrong decision by the ref saw Martin
Sale our brilliant goal keeper, sent off.
Things fell apart and we conceded two further goals. Adam Dipple did a great job taking over from
Martin. Even the goal keeper from
Isla Youth commented that we had been robbed.
Corringham Athletic
6 – 0
We
started this game with only 11 players, and just before half time one of our
centre backs got injured and could not continue to play. This was a great shame as at this point it was
0 – 0 and we were the better side. The
lads played their socks off!
This
was the coldest day I have ever known and was very windy. Started this game
brilliantly, we took command right from the first whistle. Took the lead with a great
free kick by Jack Snelling from inside our half, who got the ball to Ryan
Shoe-Smith who put the ball in the back of the net. We extended our lead, with a well taken goal
from Paul Shields on the end of a great cross from Darren Howard. Unfortunately we could not hang onto the lead
and they scored two scrappy goals. But
I have to say the lads played some of the best football I have ever seen and
the lads from Isla said they were the better team.

Corringham Cosmos 2 - 1
A great free kick from Jay Smith gave us the lead but we never played well
and ended up losing a game that we should have got something from.
Man of the match - Matt Jackson, solid defending.
A home fixture played at Corringham due to Runwell pitches being called off.
We always give Corringham a good game but have never actually beaten them.
An early goal from Corringham was soon
cancelled out by a great goal from Danny Wilson, but unfortunately we came
off 1 - 4 down at half time. A
superb second half performance saw us pull it back to 3 - 4 with goals from
Martin McClenaghan and Sam Brown, but the final whistle came just in time
for Corringham.
Man of the match - Calum McIntosh, yet another superb midfield performance.
Despite a half-time score of 1 - 1 this was a game where we really clicked
and the score-line DOES reflect the performance. Goals from Danny Wilson,
James Shrimpton, Jay Smith (2), Martin McClenaghan (3). A fantastic performance!
Man of the match - Martin McClenaghan, a superb hat-trick

6 - 0 Essex Royals 16th January 2005
After such a great result last week I was really looking forward to this
game but unfortunately the boys never
turned up today. An unbelievable result and disgraceful performance END OF
STORY !
No man of the match awarded.
Ockendon Rhinos
2 - 2 Essex Royals
With 5 boys missing through illness we took a weakened bare 11 to Ockendon
and were 0 - 2 down after 20 minutes and down to 10 men with Danny Wilson
coming off injured, but we were doing
OK. Sam McGrath beat his man on the left, played in James Shrimpton, who hit
his shot across the keeper for Sam Brown to tap in his parried save. We were
still in it. Sam McGrath won a second half penalty which Sam Brown converted
and now we were looking like winning it. Danny Wilson returned to the game
late in the second half and almost got the winner with a curling free-kick.
A really gritty performance - well done!
Man of the match - Anthony Wright, standing in at centre back and really
looking the part.

What can I say apart from being the best game of boy’s
football I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness. The
quality from both sides was extremely high just a shame the result went the
wrong way. A draw would have been by far the best result.
By half time we were 3-1 up thanks to goals from Craig
Wearne and Matthew
Tonbridge but never cruising the pressure
intensified in the 2nd half. For most of that half we were on the
back foot it was inevitable that Rhinos would get back in the game and they
did just that getting it back to 3-2. A penalty was awarded to Royals soon after but
the ball crashed against the crossbar almost breaking it in half! From there
on in we didn’t really get a look in Rhinos upped a gear and apart from a
great headed goal line clearance from
Joe Brown Rhinos broke Royals hearts with two goals in the last 5 minutes
to win the game.
Well played to all the boys a great game of football.
I wasn’t at this match but I was told the less said
about this it the better.
Tommy Morris scored a penalty.
On a very muddy pitch we went a goal down within the
first 15 minutes. Within 10 minutes Craig Wearne had equalised, but 2 minutes
later Berry Boys broke through our defence and scored.
Determined not to be beaten we started the second half
a goal down but goals from Tommy Morris, Adam Lione soon put us in front.
With 2 minutes to go a goal from Craig Wearne made sure we couldn’t
be beaten.

What a
game to watch, the boys were 0-2 after 12mins,clawed there way back to 2-2,
then 3-2 in front, back to 3-3, then 3-4 down, back to 4-4 and that’s how
it stayed. I’m out of breath reporting it, well done you hard working lads!,
cannot once again ask for more.

not capitalize with our chances, played well its starting to come together
now as a team everyone worked hard as per usual, unlucky boys that’s the second
time we have drawn Hawkwell this season.
6th February………..4
We met
the top of the division got torn apart in the first half, 0-4 down,
half time talk did wonders, boys came out and matched Basildon played some
lovely football by our boys and contained them very well, was not impressed
with the first half, second half we were a different team, even the Basildon
Manager said we looked more like the team 2nd from top instead
of the bottom well done 2nd half boys.
