Essex Royals 1 - 1 Basildon Boys
Having lost to them 4 - 2 already this season, we knew we had a job on our hands. The lads as usual played some great football and a goal by Jack Snelling gave us a point we rightly deserved.
Palmers Pirates (under 18’s) 2 - 2 Essex Royals - Pennant Cup
The lads played great football against an older team. Carl Jones put us in front with the most outstanding goal from about 40 yards out. He took a free kick and hit the ball perfectly and stunned everyone when it hit the back of the net. They equalised just after the restart. Dave Cutbush put us in the lead for the second time, but unfortunately we couldn’t hold on and again they equalised.
Essex Royals 2 - 3 Corringham Athletic (under 18’s) - Pennant Cup
I blame this defeat on the referee who allowed himself to be intimidated by the Corringham team, who I have to say are the most despicable players I have ever had the misfortune to meet on the football pitch. We went 2 nil up with goals from Paul Sheilds and a brilliant free kick by Jamie Doyle. We out played Corringham in every area of the pitch and we should have held onto the win, but sadly they got the better of us, due to the referees poor decisions.
Benfleet YFC 3 - 1 Essex Royals - Pennant Cup
This was a great game of football to watch with both sides playing some great football. Ciaran Gale scored our goal but it came a little too late for us to claw back from 3 - 0 down.

29th January Essex Royals 3 - 1 Corringham Cosmos
Our third win against these opponents this season, but not a convincing performance. A tight game where our keeper kept us in it at times, and we just managed to extend our 2-1 half time lead. Goals from Martin McClenaghan, Sam Brown, and Anthony Wright.
Man of the match – Jack Clarke ( goalkeeper ).
12th February Linford Wanderers 5 - 1 Essex Royals ( Cup semi-final )
A horrid wet windy morning and premier league opposition proved a little to much for the boys. We never got into the first half and at 0-4 down it was game over. A more spirited performance in the second half saw Sam Brown pull one back before Linford finished us off with a fifth. Congratulations to the boys on a great cup run, and we wish Linford all the best in the final.
Man of the match – Oliver Bright ( midfielder ).
26th February LTD 3 - 3 Essex Royals
A good first half saw us come off at half time 2-0 up with goals from Danny Wilson and James Shrimpton. The second half saw Anthony Wright extend our lead before we fell apart defensively. LTD scored 3 goals in the last 20 minutes and we gave away two points. Not a happy manager!
Man of the match – Jack Clarke ( goalkeeper ).
5th March Ockendon Rhinos 0 - 3 Essex Royals
At this stage of the season top of the league Ockendon were unbeaten and had beaten us twice, so when Sam Brown missed a penalty after 5 minutes I feared the worst! When we came off at half time 2-0 up I thought I was dreaming, and when we extended that lead I thought I had gone to heaven. We outplayed, out muscled, and outclassed Ockendon throughout the whole game, and they completely lost the plot. They had one booked, one sent off, And their best forward substituted to bring on an extra defender !
A GREAT DAY ! Goals from Charlie Phillippe, and Sam Brown ( 2 ).
Man of the match – Charlie Phillippe ( defender ).
12th March Highbury Colts 2 - 1 Essex Royals
From heaven to Hell! Highbury Colts bottom of the league with zero points. After missing half a dozen goal scoring chances in the first ten minutes we eventually took the lead through another Charlie Phillippe headed corner. We should have cruised from there but allowed Highbury to come straight
back. Their heads raised, ours dropped, and they nicked it in a poor second half. A terrible performance that has seen off our chances of winning this league.
Man of the match – Sam Brown ( midfielder )
19th March Catford Park Royals 0 - 4 Essex Royals
We played against a really strong wind in a first half that ended with a really weird referees decision. Jay Smith challenged a defender in the box, turned and struck a sweet goal. The linesman flagged for handball, and the referee disallowed the goal and awarded us a penalty, which their keeper then saved! Second half with the wind behind us we pinned Catford back and finished comfortable winners. Goals from Danny Wilson, Martin McClenaghan (2), and Sam Brown. A more solid hardworking performance.
Man of the match – Danny Wilson ( midfielder ).
26th March Lee Chapel 2 – 2 Essex Royals
Our inconsistency is threatening to spoil a great season for us. We have lost out on a cup-final, a league winners spot, and now we are in danger of throwing away our runners up spot. 2 goals from Danny Wilson after some real determination from Martin McClenaghan saw us 2-1 up at half time, but defensive lapses let Lee Chapel back in, and in fairness they looked more like winning it than us. A fair result but we needed all the points.
Man of the match – Martin McClenaghan ( striker ).

5th February
Aveley Youth 6 - 3 Essex Royals
With only 11 players on this cold but bright Sunday morning we knew this was
going to be a tough game as the boys had to play out of their normal positions
to cover those who were ill, and how right we were. Matthew Tumbridge put us in
front after only 5 minutes but we were never really in the game.
Joe Brown came off at half time not feeling well so we had to battle on with
only 10 players. An excellent goal from Craig Wearne lifted the boys but by
then Aveley had already won the game.
Man of the match - Matthew Tumbridge
19th February Brandon Grove 4 - 9 Essex Royals
The boys decided that as Deane had not been well the
day before and missed training the same rule applied to him as it does to them,
miss training and you only play half a game so Tony managed the team for the
first half. Hat Tricks from Tommy Morris and Volkan Eryildiz saw us beat the
bottom of
the league team quite easily.
Man of the match - Tommy Morris
26th February
Essex Royals 2 - 4 Linford Wanderers
I wasn't at this
game, but was told it was the worst performance from the boys this season.
Man of the
match - Joe Brown
5th March Phoenix Boys 2 - 7 Essex Royals (managed for day by Tony Brown)
After last weeks bad performance Tony decided to change things around leaving
those he thought didn't play their best on the bench. Coming in at half time
only 1 - nil up he thought he might of made a bad mistake as last time we
played this team we beat them 12 - 1, but with a second half hat trick from Tommy
Morris and goals from Volkan Eryildiz and Craig Wearne proved his mad method
had work.
Man of the match - Tommy Morris

UNDER 10’S - MANAGER ANDREW STEAD
Essex Royals 1
- 3 Hamlet Court
A game the boys really could have won. We battled hard at times. Played some
very good football. After going 2 - 0 down the boys didn’t let their heads
drop and with 5 minutes to go, got a goal back through Charlie McCausland who
pounced on a hard shot from Tom Quinton . With minutes to go the boys were
putting real pressure on Hamlets defence. We were caught on the break in the
dying seconds, our keeper having no chance at 3 on 1.
Essex Royals 2 - 2 Beech United
A fair result. The boys were 2 - 0 down at half time because of some poor
defending but came back in the second half, firstly with a goal from Tom
Quinton then a magnificent team goal finished off by Charlie McCausland.
Essex Royals 1 - 1 Shoebury Boys
In a repeat of the away fixture the boys were on top most of the game and were
caught napping and were punished. 1 - 0 at half time the boys were not happy,
knowing they should be in front they went out in the second half and showed
everyone what they really can do and tore the other team apart. But only 1 goal
came from all the pressure and that was finished by Tom Quinton after some good
work by Jake Hallowbread and Jean-Marc Ah-Kye.
Essex Royals 0 - 7 Catholic United
The boys started well and going in half time 2 - 0 down may even have been a
bit harsh. Second half, the team that were runners up in the cup really
stepped it up a gear.
Essex Royals 0
- 9 Berry Boys
The boys were simply out of their league in the fixture. Not a very nice way
to say goodbye to mini soccer.
I would like to say WELL DONE to all the boys who never gave up through
this very difficult season. We played an extremely high standard of football
and at times it really showed. 11 A side WATCH OUT HERE WE COME!!!
UNDER 8’S - MANAGER LARRY MCKENCHIE
29/01/06 - Essex Royals 1-4 Rayleigh Boys
Royals v top of the table. Stats were 49 goals for and 8 against only dropped 2 points. So we needed our wits about us, and for the first 10 minutes we were dealing with the pressure and even creating chances of our own. But with Josh missing and new boy Mitchell Frost starting his first game, things took a turn for the worst when the orange of Rayleigh finished off a good team move 1-0. A strong 50-50 challenge left Kai coming off worse and Joao Pedro came on in his place. Their second goal went in to end the first half 2-0, but with Alfie making some fine saves it could have been much worse.
The second half started with Kai back on with lots of defending to do, Joao Pedro now in goal, Alfie up front, but the score soon became 3-0 then 4-0 although Royals kept on going. They finally got their reward with Michael Thomas fast becoming the under 8’s hit man. Final score 4-1 another good performance from Jake, Sonny and Tommy.
Player of the Match- Mitchell Frost a very impressive first full game.
12/02/06 - Essex Royals 0-3 Ashingdon Leopards
Today we were playing the team we got our first point from. The game started and with possession 50-50, then Ashingdon scored. Royals were pushing up and with some good play the boys were making their goalie work hard, this he did keeping them in the game up to half time. Second half much the same then they scored a second. Two nil down on we pushed but from one end to the other in went their third. Michael having been denied by the goalie all game, this time beat him but for the ball spinning on the line for what felt like minutes until it was cleared. Without their goalies hard work it could have been a different game. Final Score 0-3.
Player of the Match- Sonny Smith- playing in a new position gave him his best performance.
26/02/06 - Essex Royals 3-0 Hullbridge Sports tigers
After the last game where the boys played so well and got nothing, the boys were ready. Hullbridge tigers were the opponents today, the team we got our 1st win against. Playing a new formation, we kicked off and were soon able to see we had the beating of them, and with so much attacking play 5 minutes before half time Tommy Underwood put it in the net. Second half and it was Royals on the attack again and Tommy’s second goal came, the first time Under 8’s have ever been 2-0 up. With the crowds getting bigger as Andy’s team and their opponents getting ready for their game, they must of seen the best goal of the day. This time doing what he had been doing all game from the same 20 or 30yds out, Sonny Smith scored his first goal for Royals and with the final whistle only minutes away we defended to the end. WELL DONE BOYS!!
Full team list- Joao Pedro Mewo Peet (1st half goalie), Alfie Willmott (2nd half goalie), Tom Dudley (last defender), Across the middle were Jake Loades, Kai McKechnie, and Sonny Smith, with Michael and Tommy up front. Subs today were Josh and Mitchell, who both played well when bought on in the middle.
Player of The Match- Tom Dudley- Kept the opponents at bay all game.
5/3/06 - Shore Athletic 3-1 Essex Royals
After the previous result, confidence was high. The game began well, we were defending as a team and the ball was evenly placed at both ends. Passing seems to be our main downfall. With a change of goalie at half time, and despite all the boys efforts, three goals came one after another in the second half. Alfie Willmott pulled a goal back for us right near the final whistle, but unfortunately it was not enough. Great play up the wing from Joshua White, getting the ball away from our end.
Player Of the Match - Joshua White
12/3/06 – Essex Royals 0-0 Trinity Leopards
This was a good result, after some practicing passing in training, they seemed to have realised it is a team effort. Both teams began quite strong, with the Royals having the better chances, but it was one of those games where the ball just didn’t get in the net. With a combination of good goal keeping from Trinity and some unlucky shots from the Royals the scoring never got off the ground. However they played exceptionally well today and were very determined. Particularly the defence of Sonny Smith and Kai McKechnie, and the forwards Tommy Underwood and Alfie Willmott.
Player Of The Match - Alfie Willmott
19/3/06- Essex Royals 2-2 Vasco De Canvey
It was very close last time we met Canvey, and we were hopeful for a win today. The game got off to a frantic end to end contest, with Canvey scoring just before the end of the first half. After a quick drink and a snack back on they went with heads held high and determination in their eyes. Tommy scored our equaliser minutes into the second half, with spirits high Sonny took charge of the goal, and Alfie came out up front with Tommy. Alfie scored quite quickly taking us into the lead, but with the last kick of the ball and just seconds before the final whistle, somehow Canvey managed to score again. Still, a good result for us anyway.
Player Of The Match- Sonny Smith
26/3/06- Essex Royals 2 -1 Rochford Town
The game we have been awaiting since we last met, we really felt we had something to prove here. Although we seemed to be attacking more than we needed to defend unfortunately Rochford took the lead in the first half with a lucky break. As the whistle blew the boys looked despondent, but as the second half started they had a new hope when with great team play, Kai coming from defence and passing in to Alfie and he scored. Making the last ten minutes an exciting push. It came to us with a fantastic goal when Tommy charged the ball down from the goal kick, it fell into Jakes path, and he kicked it in, his first goal for the Royals. Billy came on as sub to play his part in the win, well done to all.
Player Of The Match- Jake Loades
2/4/06- Leigh Ramblers 1-0 Essex Royals
These are the league winners this season with an impressive 72 goals for and only 11 against. We lost 4-0 to them last time. I took the strongest team I could, the boys that have really proved themselves this season, Michael, Tommy, Sonny, Kai, Jake, Josh, Alfie, Mitchell (sub). The game began evenly, we were in their half for a lot of the time, and the only shot on goal came from us. Second half much the same, then they had a corner, and with some unlucky moving in the goal area it came off one the Royals and went in. And that’s how it stayed, although we had chances to level, it just wasn’t to be, still an impressive game against a much stronger team.
Player Of The Match- Alfie Willmott
I would just like to say I feel that we have had a good first season, and are looking forward to being under 9’s next year.
UNDER 7’S MANAGER MARTIN KIDD
Rayleigh Boys Lions 3 - 0 Essex Royals Under 7’s 5 February 2006
The boys knew that this was going to a hard match against Rayleigh’s first team. Teddy Morris playing his first game for a while was captain. Yusuf Eryildiz had a fantastic game and without him the defeat would almost have certainly been far greater. He was Player of the Match. Jake Webb, Jamie Palmer, Joshua Read, Billy Thorogood, Ben Kidd, Tom Kidd, Samuel Cooper and Lewis Barnby also played.
Benfleet Youth Lions 2 - 1 Essex Royals Under 7’s 19 February 2006
After only a minute of play Joe Clarke won the ball and dribbled past a number of players before coolly slotting home with his left foot. Benfleet equalised with a nice piece of football, the ball being squared and their striker was unmarked in the middle to slot home. The Benfleet’s scored the winning goal in the 2nd half. Lewis Barnby, Jake Webb, Joshua Read, Ben Kidd, Tom Kidd and Yusuf Eryildiz also played. Player of the Match was Joe Clarke.
Benfleet Youth Tigers 4 - 0 Essex Royals Under 7’s 19 February 2006
In the second game Tom Kidd went in goal and Ben Kidd played on pitch. Samuel Cooper was also playing to support an inexperienced looking Royals side. Benfleet were 2 - 0 up at halftime and doubled their lead by full time. Debuts were handed to Jordan Clarke and Connor Philpot. Charlie Woolmer and Cameron Forde also played. This was an encouraging performance and the boys hopefully will have learnt from it. Ben was Player of the Match.
Essex Royals Lions 0 - 4 Trinity Youth Lions 5 March 2006
Another difficult match for the Royals against a strong outfit from Southend. Yusuf Eryildiz was captain. Trinity opened the scoring with yet another bizarre goal. The Trinity player’s shot hit post, rebounded onto Ben’s back and into the goal. Trinity got 3 further goal. Joshua Read, Joe Clarke, Yusuf Eryildiz, Samuel Cooper, Lewis Barnby, Billy Thorogood and Tom Kidd also played. Player of the Match was Ben Kidd.
Essex Royals Tigers 1 - 5 Trinity Youth Tigers
The second game of the day saw Ben, Tom and Lewis playing again. Cameron Forde making his home debut was captain. Royals were 5 - 0 down before Lewis Scored with his left foot. Teddy Morris Jordan Clarke, Jake Webb and Jamie Palmer also played. Cameron was named Player of the Match.
Shoebury Tigers 0 - 0 Essex Royals Under 7’s 19 March 2006
On a very windy day we turned up with a team of just 7 players so we hoped there would be no injuries, Tom Kidd was captain and Shoebury kicked off. Playing a new formation Royals dominated the game but couldn’t score. A great performance by the whole team Joe Clarke, Lewis Barnby, Yusuf Eryildiz, Ben Kidd, Samuel Cooper and Joshua Read. Player of the match was Tom Kidd.

COLT’S CORNER - PETER MEAD AND CAVAN CAREY
The cold weather has got the better of some of our youngsters, which has seen a reduction in the number attending Saturday morning training. The coaching staff are there each week and trying to keep those attending to compete against each other during the skills period. Essex Royals Hats and gloves are the order of the day though for a little longer by the look of it.
Jordan and Conor have turned out for the under 7's, to help Martin run two games on a Saturday, without having to play the same player in each game. Martin reported that they both did very well and if we are to be able to form our own squad for these and Matthew, Vincent and Chris, we need to find some more 6 year olds.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Connor, Tim and Luke for their coaching support and Richard for taking up the under 5's squad. We will be looking to run some friendly matches for the older Colts when the weather improves.
