TEAM NEWS

SENIORS – MANAGER LAWRENCE CREEK

Landsdowne Rangers 0 v 3 Essex Royals
A great all round performance by all the team that showed skill and determination to win a well fought game, G.Staines opened the scoring in the first half when he beat the defence to the ball to fire past the keeper with Essex Royals doing most of the attacking play, only a few breakaway chances getting the defence worried. The second half started well when the midfield forced a free kick on the left with N.Waite heading in the cross to make it 0-2. The game was as good as over when near the end of the game G.Staines scored his second of his debut goals running onto a loose ball and again beating the keeper. Well done the whole team for a fine performance.

Essex Royals 2 v 6 Reecon Rovers
We played well during most of the match but the score does not reflect this. It was 0-2 at half time with     Essex Royals doing most of the attacking, we were only down by a breakaway goal and an error in defence. The second half saw a revival of sorts....pressure from us led to a cross that resulted in an own goal to put us back in with a chance at 1-2....but Reecon went back to two goals better almost instantly making it 1-3. Playing well we pressed their defence with a ball through to S.Hunt who finished off the move with a fine goal to make it 2-3. The game was however put beyond doubt with 3 fairly quick goals from mistakes to make the final score 2-6

UNDER 17’S – MANAGER JENNI WELLINGTON

ESSEX ROYALS 0 - 4 BASILDON BOYS A -  League Cup

Drawn against a side that play in the premiership we knew we were not going to have an easy time of it.  During the first half we matched Basildon and there was nothing to choose between the two sides.  We came off with the score at 0 - 0.  They were awarded a penalty shortly after the restart for a great dive in the area by one of the Basildon players.   He took a good penalty and they were now in the lead.  I don’t quite know what happened after that but the ref seem to take a shine to them and they scored two goals following two hand balls.  I didn’t think you were allowed to use your hands unless you were the goal keeper or taking a throw on, but hey who am I to comment. I’m not a qualified ref.  Following a diabolical challenge on Paul Shields which has put him out of action for the next 3 weeks, saw us down to 10 men and they scored another goal.  Our cup dreams remain on hold for yet another year.

ESSEX ROYALS 4 - 1 BENFLEET VILLA

We have never played this team before so we were not sure what to expect and the lads started the game strongly and dominated most of the game.  A great header from centre back Sam Greaves put  us in the lead. Another goal by Sean Halloran put us 2 - 0 at half time.  Two more goals by Jamie Doyle and Ryan Shoesmith gave us a comfortable lead, but much to the lads disappointment we conceded our first league goal at home.  Every player on the pitch gave 100% and they played some great football.

GROVEWOOD 2 - 2 ESSEX ROYALS - Brought to you by Ryan Shoesmith

Essex Royals started the game poorly and were dominated early but forced a corner mid way through the second half and an excellent corner from the sublime Ryan Shoesmith was expertly finished by Sam Greaves. Grovewood equalised shortly after from a corner but again one of Ryan Shoesmiths amazing throw ins into the box was scrambled and Paul Shields lashed it into the top of the net. Once Again Grovewood equalised but Essex Royals battled till the end with Ryan Shoesmith showing the other side to his skilful goal scoring midfield game and digging deep and fighting for every ball and left Grovewood frightened with some tackles that quite frankly the Runwell park faithful will never forget....a truly heroic performance, reminiscent of Terry Butchers blood stained performance for England. We completely dominated the second half with us having at least 2 definite penalties denied if it was wasn’t for a complete doughnut of a ref.

LINFORD WANDERERS 2 - 4 ESSEX ROYALS

On a freezing cold, foggy morning we started the game well, but against the run of play Linford scored from a corner.  We soon replied with a brilliant long range shot from Steven Darnell saw the ball hit the top right hand corner of the net.  Not sure who was more shocked, the lads, Steve or us!! Not bad for a centre back/left back who was playing in the mid-field for a change!! By half time we were leading 1 - 2 after a great goal by Paul Shields.  Caught napping at the restart and Linford scored.  We battled on  and with some great passing Ryan Shoesmith received the ball outside the area and he struck it perfectly and it found its way to the back of the net.  We were back in charge and Paul Sheilds scored his second of the day with another superb long range shot from outside the area.  Linford continued to come at us but due to great defending and real team and hard work by all the lads, we secured the win.

UNDER 15’S - MANAGEMENT TEAM - NICK DRIVER, TRACY BONNER AND ALAN MATHESON

20-11-05 - ESSEX ROYALS 4 - 0 THAMES TROJAN SPORTS

First game for 3 weeks, and despite not playing ROYALS started the game very strongly against opponents that were unbeaten, and although well on top could not score until just before half time with a penalty.

Then three further goals in the next 20 minutes made the game safe and with the defence only allowing the opposition 3 attempts at goal, it was another excellent performance played in a rather unpleasant atmosphere, but the boys kept their heads and were worthy winners.

UNDER 13’S – MANAGER STEVE WILSON

23rd October   Essex Royals  2 – 1  Corringham Cosmos

An absolute thriller of a cup game where we went a goal behind but came back before half-time thanks to an equaliser from Anthony Wright. The second half was a hard fought battle with no goals, and so to extra-time. With 2 minutes of the match remaining, Jay Smith launched a free-kick into the six yard box. It took two deflections and the ball bounced over the line off of the keepers water bottle – result !  Well done boys.

Man of the match – Ryan Malster ( midfield ).

6th November  Essex Royals  5 – 1  Highbury Colts

Despite totally dominating the first half, we never had that sharpness in attack or defence, and ended up a goal down through a classic counter attack. This turned out to be the oppositions only attack as we went out second half and murdered them. Three goals from Martin McClenaghan, Danny Wilson, and Jay Smith, in the space of seven minutes, put us in total control of the game and we really started playing some quality football. Further goals from Sam Brown and Jay Smith gave us a healthy score line, although it could have been ten. A superb second half performance from all the boys !

Man of the match – Jay Smith.

Get well again.

You may have read in the last newsletter, how Sam McGrath broke his arm after being on the pitch for two minutes against Lee Chapel.

Well, he made his comeback with a substitute appearance against Highbury Colts, where he set up a goal for Sam Brown and played well. He then returned to school the following week, played basketball, took a fall, and ……………yes you guessed it – broke the same bone again!! At this rate Sam, you’re getting plastered more often than your manager.    GET WELL SOON.

UNDER 12’S MANAGER LISA BROWN

Brandon Groves 1 - 6 Essex Royals

A top quality performance put paid to Brandon Groves the boys were strong in every department and there were far too many good performances to mention here

Man of the match  Lee Byrne

 Ockendon  Rhinos B 0 - 9 Essex Royals

Again another devastating performance in the 1st round of the cup the boys are playing well and confidence is growing its good to see goals coming from so many different positions

Man of the match  Joe Brown

 Essex Royals 6 - 0 Wilburn Wanderers

Another quality performance from the boys against an admittedly under strength Wilburn the boys are looking sharp but just maybe need to find a bit more sharpness in midfield

Man of the match Lee Byrne

Essex Royals 1 - 1 Lee Chapel Falcons

We knew before the game that this was going to be a tough one both teams are on top form and it was explained to the boys on Saturday that this would be our biggest game of the season. It turned out to really tough game both sides pressed and for a while Lee Chapel threatened to put the game out reach after a good finish from their centre forward a good old fashioned rollicking at half time seemed to sort the boys out and they were the better team for most of the second half getting their just rewards midway through the second half. Lee Chapel had to hold on in the later stages but held on long enough to earn a very deserved point a great good old fashioned game of football a credit to both teams

Man of the Match Brett Gilbourne

Essex Royals 12 – 1 Phoenix Boys

Well what can I say about this performance the boys were out the traps like a proverbial greyhound and were one nil up  after about 20 seconds! From then on they never looked back goals continued to flow in both half’s and it was decided to change the team drastically to save Phoenix further embarrassment a very very good polished professional performance from everyone, very well played

Man of the match Mike Watts

Birthday boys

Happy birthday to Brett Gilbourne on the 18th November

Happy birthday to Glen Archie on the 1st December

Happy birthday to Volkan Eryildiz on the 6th December

UNDER 11’S – MANAGER CAVAN CAREY

Sun.13th Oct League Cup. Essex Royals 2 v 0 Thames Sports.

The Boys played really well much the stronger side and should have had more goals, starting to gel together now lets hope it can continue well done everybody.

Sun 23rd Oct  L.T. D Cougars 2 v 2 Essex Royals.

After being one nil down 5mins played the Boys pulled it back to 2-I up by half time, then a wonder goal from nowhere made it 2-2 at full time. The Boys deserved the win, played again well looking good.

Sun 30th Oct   Essex Royals 3 v 0 Trinity Utd.

This was far our best performance totally dominated the game from start to finish another Hat Trick from Charly Golding very good Boys keep it up, well done again.

Sun 6th Nov  Vange Utd 2 v 1 Essex Royals.

What a game! Were 1-0 up with 10 mins to go they equalise with just seconds on the watch and the opposition score a fluke goal what an injustice so disappointed for the Boys well done they played well

Sun 13th Nov League Cup  Chalvedon Boys 4 v 2 Essex Royals.

This was going to be our toughest Cup challenge what a thriller, anyone’s game, end to end stuff! but the game could have gone either way despite the defeat the Boys played really well.

Sun 20th Nov  L.T. D Cobras 1 v 0 Essex Royals.

L T D Were unbeatable in the League and we matched them and could have played better, we do not fear anyone after this result, should have more from the game. Well done the Boys, lets grow from this game and learn.

UNDER 10’S - MANAGER ANDREW STEAD

CONCORD RANGERS 8 - 0 ESSEX ROYALS CUP 1 ROUND

A game which could be described as a mismatch. We played the
Chelsea of  the under 10's in South East Essex and it showed! The boys, to be fair, didn't play that bad and held their own for the first 15 minutes. But then a lucky goal which was a fluffed cross, gave the home team the edge and then they turned up the heat!!!

SOUTHEND MANOR 0 - 1
ESSEX ROYALS
At last! The boys first win of the season, which took us out of the bottom 2. A good, solid team performance from all the boys who were unlucky not to have scored more goals. Jorge Wilson took advantage of a mistake by the goalkeeper early on to give us the lead and his first goal for the club. With a full strength team we pressurized the goalie with a range of efforts from long range shots from Tom Quinton and Frankie Pearson, to close range efforts from Charlie McCausland and Jack Oliver, Jack putting the ball over from 5 yards out! But in the end we came away with a well deserved win.

UNDER 8’S - MANAGER LARRY MCKENCHIE

16/11/05   Rochford Town 4 -1 Essex Royals

This was only our third league match, and the kids were determined to succeed. They came out playing well, however it was not meant to be, the tackles were going in quite hard, mainly from the opposition, and were not picked up by the referee. Time was played out too long with the first half being 30 minutes, the kids were tired. At half time it was just 1-0. Second half pretty much the same as the first, they scored another two, then amazingly the Royals captain Kai scored our first league goal. Hooray, at last they got it in the net. With a new lease of life they fought back, but with some unfortunate refereeing, we were not allowed to sub any more. With just a few minutes before the whistle they got another one in…disaster. If it was not for some fantastic saves by our goalie Joao Pedro, the result could have been much worse. With the whole game lasting over 1 hour this was a long hard game.

Player of the Match       Joao Pedro Mewo-Peet

23/11/05   Rayleigh Boys 3 - 0 Essex Royals

A nice sunny start to the day, the kids came out heads up. With our new forward Tommy, playing confidence was up. This was our best game yet, the sides were very evenly matched, with some phenomenal defending from Josh, Jake and Kai, and brilliant saves by Joao Pedro. There were some good runs from Tommy, Michael and Sonny, and shots narrowly missed the goal. At half-time 0-0.

Second half, we came out attacking, Tommy had some good opportunities to shoot but they didn’t quite get there. Sub Billy, came on to give Tommy a rest, and had a good go at getting the ball in to no avail. Josh was getting tired so with just a few minutes to go sub Alfie took his place. Then disaster with just four minutes to go, the goals went in one after another, how unlucky, disheartened the kids looked on in disbelief.

Player Of the Match                Michael Thomas

30/11/05   Essex Royals 0 - 4 Leigh Ramblers Pumas

Today was bottom of the league meets top, with Leigh Ramblers having scored 19 goals in their first four games, and not conceded any. We were very apprehensive, not wanting to get beaten too hard.

Once again the chances were there, Tommy, Alfie and Michael were upfront, but just five minutes into the game the ramblers broke through and scored. Then after a save from Joao Pedro, our defence were at sixes and sevens, he kicked it out straight to an opposing player and before he had a chance to get back in the goal the ball was in the net. Half time 0-2. Second half started pretty much the same, sub Natalie came on and played really well getting in to gain the ball. However, the inevitable happened, with some sloppy defending, their player was able to drag the ball back, and get it past. Not more than 5 minutes later it went in again. Final score 0-4, our worst yet. I am sure we sill get there in the end, they are improving every week.

Player of the match              Natalie Leach

5/11/05   Tournament at Perry Street 5th November.

We were invited to participate in this under 8’s tourney, having played a few friendlies with Perry Street. We have four new players and this was the ideal opportunity to try them out, especially as we were missing several of our regulars. There were three games played in the rounds against Hannikins, Hutton and Perry Street (A). Unfortunately we lost them all 2-0, 3-1(Tommy Underwood) and 3-0 respectively. Then there was the knock out, we were bottom of our round and were pitched against the winners of the other. We never expected to win this, and didn’t with 3-0 being the final score. I have to say that the kids played fantastically, with the new players subbed in and trying really hard. Some might be disheartened by the losing, but I feel that win or lose every game is a valuable learning curve for the children and I am very proud of them all.

Player of the tournament (as voted for by the parents)   Michael Thomas

6/11/05 Ashingdon Leopards 2 - 2 Essex Royals

Hopes were high again. We were playing with only 7 boys, and no subs. The boys seemed to be keen and not disheartened from previous results. Having taken the kick off, the ball soon found its way up to our goal mouth, with some frantic kicks by both teams Ashingdon Leopards managed to scramble the ball over the goal line from within a foot giving poor Joao Pedro no chance. The same thing seemed to happen when the ball was on the back line. Two defenders were looking on thinking that the ball was out (with no refs whistle), and the leopards pounced and some how it was 2-0. After that possession was even, with lots of chances for all. Our forwards Tommy, Michael and Billy were pushing up with support from Jake and Josh on the left and right back, and Kai central defender finding it hard to stay further back. The half time whistle blew and after a drink and snack and a word of encouragement off they went again. It started as it finished in the opposing half, chances coming but not taken. Then with some great linking play there was a shot on goal, and YES a great goal from Michael. COME ON BOYS!! Now they were smiling and really looked like a team. With some good running from Josh and Jake and supportive play by Kai, Tommy and Michael were getting and keeping the pressure on. Then the ball found its way to Billy’s feet, he was one on one with the goalie, with Mums, dads and Grandad’s white and the manager bursting a blood vessel…..Billy Scored. YES Billy we shouted. The boys were ecstatic, and their eyes said it all, they had the drive for more. With the time left they could have won it, but we were all jubilant with the result. Although Joao Pedro had nothing to do for the last 20 minutes, we would all take that any day. Well Done Boys.

Player Of The Match                                       Billy

13/11/05  Hullbridge Tigers 0 – 1 Essex Royals

I shall keep this one short. Remember the date 13.11.05, Under 8’s team lined up as stand in goalie Alfie Willmott, who touched the ball twice the whole game, Josh, Kai and Jake then Tommy Michael and Billy. Once again no subs. Royals scored through Tommy Underwood, and with many many more chances for all the boys, the breakthrough came with the final whistle Royals 1 Hullbridge Tigers 0.YES!

Player Of The Match                                              Tommy

(I need more player of the match trophies- because they all deserve one).

UNDER 7’S MANAGER MARTIN KIDD

Hamlet Court 1 - 5 Essex Royals                             23 October 2005

After a shaky start where Hamlet could have been 2 or 3 goals up, our captain for the day Joe Clarke broke away and scored to put us 1 - 0 up. Lewis Barnby then scored a second for us, celebrating by running the length of the pitch to give his dad a big hug. In between Yusuf Eryildiz was looking solid and skilful in defence with goal keeper Ben Kidd commanding his box.  2 - 0 up at half time. Early in the 2nd half Lewis got his 2nd goal lobbing the goalie from 20 yards. Hamlet pulled 1 back and Ben saved with his back before we got 2 further late goals from Teddy Morris and a 2nd from Joe Clarke from Tom Kidd’s corner to give us a fine 5 - 1 win. All the boys played a part in this victory Charlie Woolmer grew in confidence as the game progressed, Jake Webb went on a couple of runs, Joshua Read who I asked to play in defence was playing right wing within a minute of the game starting and Samuel Cooper making a crunching tackle on an opposition player. What a start. Joe was Player of the Match. I estimate we had about 50 mums/dads/nans/grandads/brothers and sisters watching.

Essex Royals 5 - 0 Rayleigh Boys Pumas                6 November 2005

Manager Martin Kidd made 2 changes to the squad bringing in Jamie Palmer and George Stephenson for their debuts.  Captain Lewis Barnby lost the toss so Royals played the first half up the hill and against the wind in their first home game at Runwell Park.  However this did not deter the boys as from the off Royals dominated possession as Rayleigh battled bravely to keep us out.  Lewis had a couple of long shots that just went wide before he opened the scoring.  When Rayleigh succeeded in getting out of their half they were met by a solid defence of Yusuf Eryildiz and Tom Kidd.  Near the end of the first half, Yusuf picked up possession on the edge of his area and ran the whole length of the pitch setting up Lewis for his 2nd, and a 2 - 0 lead at half time.  Royals continued the 2nd half as they ended the first and were soon 4 - 0 up with 2 goals from Teddy Morris, 1 of which saw him run from the halfway line to slot home past the advancing keeper.  Meanwhile our keeper Ben Kidd made his only save of the game following a rare attack by Rayleigh.  Yusuf came back on having been substituted at half time and clearly forgot we had swapped ends as he went on another amazing run but heading towards our goal rather than the oppositions.  Luckily he realised but it could have been one of the best ever seen own goals.  The boys played some great football and in 1 move completed 8 passes as they sprayed the ball around.  In the final minutes Joe Clarke scored our fifth with the ball bouncing awkwardly in front of their keeper.  Referee Tony Brown blew for full time and the boys celebrated another win.  All the squad played it’s part, George and Jamie and good debuts, Joshua Read had a couple of shots and Charlie Woolmer got stuck in. Another massive crowd cheered the boys on and chants of Jose Mourinho were directed at the manager. Player of the Match was Lewis.  Assistant Manager Jason Barnby summed up the victory ‘Convincing’.

COLT’S CORNER - PETER MEAD AND CAVAN CAREY

A good turnout for the Skills and Halloween Party, which allowed the parents to get together in the warm and get to know each other. Both events went off well and everybody looked to enjoy the day.

The numbers at training is growing, giving us three different age groups to work with - under 6, 5 and 4. Working with them in their 'team' groups and together should help their development. Lets hope the weather continues to be kind to us.
